Many people choose to learn one or more martial arts as a way of protecting themselves. Along with that important benefit, there is also the matter of developing a higher sense of self-discipline. That is what led me to study the arts a couple of years ago.
While not concerned about defending myself, my temper got out of control a little too easily. The fact that I had put on a couple of pounds did not help. What I found is that by taking classes locally, I began to lose the spare tire and tone up the rest of my body. At the same time, I felt calmer and more in control.
